Grantee: Arkansas Department of Workforce Services (ADWS)

Purpose: The Arkansas Job Driven National Emergency Grant (AR JD-NEG)

Partnership will train dislocated workers in three job driven occupations that

have demonstrated demand for new employees.

Industries of Focus: Healthcare: Medical Coding / Billing,

Advanced Manufacturing: Multi-Craft Technician, Transportation: Commercial Driver,

and additional training as warranted by employer demands and opportunity for job

placement in the Fort Smith Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Participants Served: Dislocated workers or long-term unemployed/underemployed

individuals

Amount: $2,472,124 of grant funds from the U.S. Department of Labor

Timeframe: July 1, 2014 to September 30, 2016

Key Partnerships: Arkansas Workforce Investment Board (AWIB), Arkansas

Department of Workforce Services (ADWS), University of Arkansas at Fort Smith (UAFS),

Winrock International, Western Arkansas Planning and Development District (WAPDD),

local WIB, and other workforce development professionals.

Project Description: The AR JD-NEG Partnership will focus its efforts on the

Fort Smith Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) with a training focus on healthcare,

advanced manufacturing, transportation, and additional training as warranted by

employer demand and opportunity for job placement. The Partnership will provide

assessment, classroom training, intensive services including job-coaching and other skills,

On-the-Job Training, and other services. Participants will be assessed by completing the

Career Readiness Certificate (CRC). The CRC is a recognized by over 78 Arkansas

employers and over 2500 employers nationally in which the participant may verify

to an employer of their workplace skill set and employability.

Proposed Outcomes: A total of 400 participants will receive grant funded services of

those 239 are anticipated to begin training activities with 332 entering employment.

Participants will obtain a transferrable credential verifying their workplace skill set

and employability.
